reset audi a4 service indicator? I just tuned up my 2003 audi a4 1.8 turbo. I managed to reset the service so that no miles/days display. It displays "---". How can I get it to reset to 50,000 as my next interval ? I saw other posts, but they seemed to reset it to "---" and not the miles. Thanks.

marlonduval replied: "You can reprogram with Vag-Com on most models. Not sure about yours. Check the Ross-Tech website for more information."

Hello replied: "gg"

djaca70 replied: "Generally, it starts up as soon as you start driving the car."

a88fl1 replied: "If you look in your owners manual it should tell you how to reset the light. The miles will be preset once you turn off the service light."

how do I reset the service warning indicator on my Audi A4? I have a P reg Audi A4 Avant 1.8. When I start up the dashboard shows a warning code on the odometer display showing the car needs a service. I I service my own cars, does anyone know a trick as to how you can reset it? Please do not tell me to go to Audi!

edna_romano_1943 replied: "We use the ScanGauge II to reset our own lights. You can also go to a NAPA or local car parts store like Advance AutoParts or Murry's depending where you live. they can analyze the code and reset it for you no charge. Edna"

Hayley w replied: "If carrying out your own service then to remove the anoying service light on start up then try this. Press and hold the right button. (odometer reset) now switch on the ignition (oil lamp will not flash, but on at all times) press the right button again (insp is now displayed) pull left button. (clock set) (------ are now displayed) Pull left button again This works on my A4 tdi (110bhp) but should work on all. this also works on my 98 A4 1.8T i hope this helps if not then ebay is a good place to buy a service indicator reseter, if not then unfortunately you may need to go to audi"

matrix replied: "you will need a reset tool you can get these off ebay, or a obd11 lead and a lap top and down load the VAG COM, free software, you can then reset your service lights and see and reset any fault codes etc, the new models you can reset it by pressing some of the dash buttons in the correct sequence. is great site for Audi info ."

audi_nate replied: "I am an Audi Technician. If you tell me what year your A4 is, I can tell you how to reset it."

owner_of_a_lonely_CAR replied: "There's a difference between Audi service indication and ODBII check engine light. Check engine light can be reset by regular ODBII scan tool. If you are talking about Audi service indicator, you would need Vag-Com tool: I have one of these and they are worth their cost. It tells you a lot about the car. It recently saved me few hundred dollars when I was able to repair my own MAF sensor (clean it instead of replace / repair). But if you are not the do-it-yourself-er then... you have almost no choice but deal with the dealer. There's no free ride in the world of Audi. The only choice are expensive and more expensive repair cost. As I see it, it is worth the money given I can resell it when I get rid of my car later. So the actual cost would be the difference between buy and sell price. And the difference would be much less than frequent visit to my Audi dealer. Good Luck."

Iain C replied: "I use the ScanGauge II aswell to reset the light, but they are quite expensive to buy, so normally borrow one off a mechanic friend. Might be worth just asking your local independent Audi garage if you can bung them a tenner to use it. There is a list of independent garages here... Hope that helps"

rann_georgia replied: "What's the mileage? Usually, these things trip at 50k, 75k. Probably if you drive around for maybe a 100 miles it will go out. That's been my experience. You can also buy or borrow a code scanner and clear it."

How do I reset the service light for a 02' Audi A4? I just had the oil changed yesterday (7/5/06). If possible is there a diagram to make it easier.

Tygirljojo replied: "Just take it back in and tell them they forgot to reset it."

tanyae2002 replied: "You can unplug the battery. if the light comes back on, have the vehicle checked out. Also where are u taking the car to have the oil changed? Make sure that they know to set something to let the computer in the car know that the oil is changed. My mant reqd light comes on if I have not changed the oil. It only comes off when the pedal is punched 2 times while the car is in the acc position on the steeering wheel. Cheep oil places do now know how to reset the light when it is on for a simple oil change. Hope this helps."

Garry H replied: "I DONT KNOW !!! GOOD LUCK"

Manually reset the oil service light on a 2009 Audi A4? I have a 2009 Audi A4 and just changed the oil how do I reset the service due alert on it I need to do it manually I dont have the reset tool for it

Kevin J replied: "The only way that I am aware of is using an Audi approved scan tool to access the adaptation values in the instrument cluster and changing them there. Your local Audi dealership shouldn't have a problem resetting the light for you."

How do I reset the service light for a 99' Audi A4? I just had the oil changed last week....

J.R. replied: "Turn the key to the key on/engine off position and hold the reset button for your odometer/trip meter for 5 seconds. Continue holding while you start the car."

maddmatt1387 replied: "Or you could just unhook the battery and hook it back up that works as well with most cars.."

mick replied: "Jr is correct do not disconnect your battery apart from losing your radio codes its not necessary.Mick UK have an A4"

How to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer? How could you avoid the computer to be resetted and therefore loose the ability of starting the car after wards since the key has the memory chip in it that would not be acknowledged by the starting system. My neighbor claims I can't be done without causing disturbances to the mention systems but I wanted to see if somebody has done I find ludicrous to tow the car to service center just to get the battery changed.

kelly_f_1999 replied: "go and buy one at most parts store and they will replace it there like auto zone"

Chris replied: "You can use those portable battery chargers that plug into the cigarette lighter. Its keeps the computer powered with 12 volts while you change the battery."

mactruck replied: "Also you can keep jumper cables on from another battery or car while you change out the battery. Audi must be different from my car in that respect. I've taken out the battery from my 2008 Explorer to use on another car for a few hours then when I returned it into the Explorer, the only thing that I had to set was the clock on the radio. It even remembered the keypad code on the door. And the keys has a memory chip in them as well."

Alex E replied: "If you can locate a cigarette lighter adapter plug, wire it to a 9 volt battery (like the one in your smoke detector at the house). If you feel uncomfortable about wiring one, these are also sold at some parts stores. The 9 vdc battery will keep the charge on the computer while you swap batteries."

Landis replied: "most cars have a battery backup. This will give you between 5 and 15 minutes to change the battery. As long as you change out the battery in 5 minutes you will be all right."

PHILLIP replied: "You did not mention about the model year of your A4. You can replace all A4 battery by yourself without using any special tool and electronic equipment and the car will work fine. There are two things you may need to do after battery replacement. First is the radio, you have to enter the 4 digits radio code to make it work again (note: most newer A4 model will not need this step). Second, you may need to initialize one touch power window (See your owner manual for the instruction). Just follow the proper procedure for replacing car battery as for most of other car. (Remove ignition key, remove positive then negative, replace battery, install positive then negative)"

C7S replied: "A battery could be changed while the car if kept on, but you need to do it fast. The alternator should keep the car On for a short time without battery power."
