Questions and Answers
I have a 05'dodge magnum AWD. I want to put 265/30/22on the fronts and 295/25/22 on the backs, will this work. Will this affect the tranny or speedo on the car? What would be the worst scenario with damage to car? This is a tough call as I am getting different answers. Most are saying that the size is within 2% and will work fine w/o affecting anything. Are there any experts out there with this knowledge? Problem is I already have the wheels, Just have not installed them.

cgriffin1972 replied: "Mixing the tires?????? Are you serious????? Pick 1 size or suspension will fail fast."

Donnie Darko replied: "go to miata.net to check if your speedometer will stay the same. enter stock tire size (listed on the tire of course). also, you should find out the offset of your wheels. new wheels with a higher offset will poke out and may rub your fenders."

emiller1998 replied: "The different sized tires are going to mess up your AWD. The front tires will be almost 1/2" taller. Something like a 245/30/22 would be closer to the same diameter. Those rims will tear up your suspension too."

Gerald S replied: "Go to... and use their calculator to see what tire rim combinations fit your car"

Peter V replied: "NOT A good idea.. will screw up the suspension, the tranny maybe since the pitch will change... just never good as a rule to use different tire sizes unless you car has been properly customized for it.. which is expensive and really not worth it unless you are racing it and need the big slicks on the back..... dont do it, just go with 265/30/22s all around"

magnum_srt8er replied: "I would not recommend mixing wheel sizes on your AWD Magnum. You will have some serious issues with your transfer case and front & rear differentials. I would guarantee you will damage these components if you mix the wheel sizes. Also another guarantee that your powertrain warranty will be void should your transfer case or one or both of your differentials get damaged & the dealership service manager notices 2 different tire sizes....(Bye Bye Warranty repair). Fairly common knowledge if you owned a 4x4/AWD truck or SUV not to mix tire sizes or tire makes/tread as it will play havoc on your differentials & Transfer case."

I just purchased a used 2005 Dodge Durango AWD with a 4.7 V8 magnum, what grade fuel is recommended I use? I just purchased a used 2005 Dodge Durango AWD with a 4.7 V8 magnum 27,000 miles, what grade fuel is recommended for this truck?

Charles R replied: "Try the owners manual."

Douglas P replied: "I would use 97 octane fuel due to the fact that the lower octane fuel is a lower grade of fuel and does not contain the additives that the 97% fuel has. With the lower octane fuel u will get lower fuel mileage, u will get a little engine knock due to the lower octane in the fuel. I always run the higher octane in my 2000 Durango and have no problems. It might cost a little more but u will always improving ur miles per gallon, u will be decreaing the carbon buildup in ur clyinders that the lower octane gas leaves. the higher octane burns better and cleaner."

revman replied: "Regular grade gas , 87 octane. I only put in something higer if I'm towing over long distance."

dodge man replied: "the 4.7 was made to run good on regular gas,you can look on the back of the owners manual and it will clearly tell you what the recommended fuel is for that vehicle, they run good though on 87 octane, you can run higher octane fuels in it and you wont see much difference in the way it runs or drives, good luck."

Wm H replied: "I agree with Dodge Man. I've had a 4.7 for 6 years now, and I've never run high octane in it. Maybe it'll like higher octane at sea level, but you won't need it at higher altitudes."

2006 Dodge Magnum? I bought a 2006 Dodge Magnum SXT. I was woundering how can you tell if its a RWD or AWD car. I believe its a RWD. Let me tell you I bought this car in a dealership. The sticker was 22,900. I walked out paying 14,000 ( out the door ) I think I got such a good deal because I went the last day of the month and also payed cash for the car. I also was a jerk to the dealership.....

A A replied: "Discounts are readily avialable for the new RWD sedans, unfortuantely Chrysler is pushing about 40-50% of them to fleet usage, which means depreciation will dive soon enough. That's why they don't mind cutting thousands off sticker. You should have a AWD sticker on the back fascia of your car. If your still not sure, take it to a parking lot area thats empty, take off stability control, turn yuor wheel to the right till you almost reach the turning lock...then slam the gas and let go about 3 seconds after. If the tail sticks out (fishtail) then it's RWD, if you actually drove forward and made the turn, it's AWD. Hope this helps..."

No Title of Nobility Needed replied: "well, if you payed that, there has to be something wrong w/ the car, just letting you know. dealers are smart and know how to play the game. they wouldn't just take that big of a loss. it's either been wrecked, been lemon-lawed, or the transmission or other major parts have big malfunctions. to answer your question, i think it's RWD."

dodge magnum 2.7L opinions, hoping for dodge experts? whatn to buy a magnum, are there 3.5L with RWD? 23 years old, AWD would apply as 4X4 for the insurance...like the magnum, please help.

Bandit-05 replied: "You can get a Magnum with the 3.5L in both RWD and AWD versions. I would stay away from the 2.7L though. Just do a quick search for 2.7L engines and sludge problems. There are dedicated websites to horror stories people have experienced with that engine and oil starvation."

jp#5 replied: "They come in RWD and AWD you can get 2.7 3.5 or 5.7 hemi, That other guy is right i wouldn't buy one with a 2.7"

dodge man replied: "you can get it in rwd or awd drive models just stay away from anything that has a 2.7 in it,any engine besides that one is alright to own, they are good vehicles though just very underrated, good luck."

howard replied: "As you have been advised, buy nothing with the 2.7L engine in it. The others are much more reliable and you won't be sorry."

~Will~ *Xxclusive* replied: "I'd stay away from the 2.7L (Duh) Its slow and the sludge buildup is horrible. I would say if you are wanting to go fast get the hemi but the 3.5L is hella nice too and I love the Magnum. I owned a 3.5L totaled it now I have a 5.7L Loved Them Both!!!!"

need help in suspension for my car? yo...i own a 2007 dodge magnum awd and i wanted to replace the stock suspension. I want to drop my car but there is an area where i pass that has speed bumps where my car would touch at the lowered height....i don't want to leave it the original height so wanted to put an adjustable suspension that i could raise and drop from inside the car. Any suggestions anyone????

Tom C replied: "air bags will do the trick"

umbreo_palto replied: "From inside the car, Airbag suspension or hydraulics would be your only options. I don't know about this sites reliability I am linking for examples, but they have similar systems to what I am talking about so you can atleast see what I am talking about. Optionally you could either not lower the car as much, or get adjustable coil-overs but those are not adjustable from the inside. "

armand replied: "an air suspension from air ride should do it. the only bad thing would be the somewhat loud conpressor and when you hit the switches. or you could also look into a hydraulic suspension, you know like lowrider."

Go Broncos replied: "Against the law in my state, and I am pretty sure it is against the law in your state. Source: Colorado Statutes/Colorado Revised Statutes /TITLE 42 VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC/REGULATION OF VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC/ARTICLE 4 REGULATION OF VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC/PART 2 EQUIPMENT/42-4-233. Alteration of suspension system. 42-4-233. Alteration of suspension system. Statute text (1) No person shall operate a motor vehicle of a type required to be registered under the laws of this state upon a public highway with either the rear or front suspension system altered or changed from the manufacturer's original design except in accordance with specifications permitting such alteration established by the department. Nothing contained in this section shall prevent the installation of manufactured heavy duty equipment to include shock absorbers and overload springs, nor shall anything contained in this section prevent a person from operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with normal wear of the suspension system if normal wear shall not affect the control of the vehicle."
